A couple of off-air clips have emerged showing the delightful respect between the Premier and AUSLAN interpreter, Fiona Perry.

Since COVID hit, Ms Perry has become somewhat of a cult figure across WA.

While the Premier updates the state, she can be seen interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Thing is, you don’t always get to see what happens in the moments before or after the official update, but a couple of interactions have recently been picked up that just, well, just warm our hearts.

The way he always acknowledges her:

And this, which is hands-down the purest:

“My daughter taught me how to say something this morning,” McGowan can be heard saying before the official presser kicked off.

McGowan then signs to Fiona, who is clearly delighted.

“Oh! Hello Fiona!” she can be heard saying before replying “thank you” in AUSLAN.

McGowan chuckled and can be seen beaming… and we are 100% here for it.
