Australian Medical Association WA President has likened the vaccine overdose given to two elderly aged care residents to taking too much Panadol.
An 88-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman who received shots at Brisbane’s Holy Spirit Nursing Home on Tuesday were given four times the correct dose.
Health Minister Greg Hunt now says the doctor had not been trained to administer the injection and is no longer involved in the vaccine rollout and will be reported to the national regulator.
It’s understood that the elderly pair have so far not shown any adverse reactions but remain closely monitored.
Latest developments aside, AMA WA President Dr Andrew Miller told Botica’s Bunch they shouldn’t come to any harm as a result of the overdose.
“Maybe they’ll be super immune for awhile,” he said.
“I think it’s a bit like taking four Panadol instead of one y’know, it’s not going to kill you – it’s unfortunate, but it shouldn’t dent people’s confidence in the rollout.”
