A 50-year-old gelding named Calypso has passed away on the Gold Coast.

At 50, Calypso was the equivalent of 150 years old in human years, and was thought to be one of the oldest horses in Australia.

Jenny Dyson-Holland, Calypso’s carer, told ABC that she found the quarter horse dead in his paddock on Saturday morning.

“Quarter horses are renowned for being tough but he just had a will to live.

“Right to the last day he was lively, eating and happy.”

The small horse had a big following on social media and local children would often visit him in his paddock.

Last year, Calypso celebrated her 50th birthday with a party in the Tallebudgera Valley on the official horses’ birthday, August 1st.

Rest in Peace, Calypso.
