Airlines have begun putting on extra flights to Melbourne to cater for increased demand as AFL fans rush for tickets to the semi-final clash between the Eagles and Geelong.

As many as 5000 fans are expected to be flying east.

In response to the increased demand, Virgin Australia has put on two additional return flights between Perth and Melbourne, while Jetstar has put larger aircraft between the two cities.

A charter flight has also been organised by Melbourne Travel Sports Australia.

Passengers can get a return flight, a ticket to the game and two night’s accommodation for $1350, PerthNow reported.
