A man is fighting for life after receiving an electric shock from jumping on to a train roof.

About 11.20pm on Sunday, staff had noticed the man behaving “agitated” before he climbed on to the roof of Wellard station, Public Transport Authority spokesman David Hynes said.

The man then jumped onto one of two trains which had pulled in, hitting an overhead powerline, which was charged with 25,000 volts.

Mr Hynes said power was immediately switched off, stopping the trains while emergency crews worked to save the man.

DFES firefighters spent about 50 minutes on rescuing the man who was then taken by St John Ambulance to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition.
