The 2017 Melbourne Cup has reportedly been stolen from a cafe in Melbourne’s north-west.

According to police, the offenders forced their way into Houdini’s Cafe e Cucina at Diggers Rest between 11.30pm Saturday and 10.30am Sunday morning.

The Age reported that once inside, the offenders ransacked the cafe, taking off with cash from the register – and the coveted trophy.

The main Melbourne Cup trophy is valued around $150,000, while replicas, such as this one, are valued between $10,000 and $15,000.
