The AFL as announced three rule tweaks for 2021, designed for more attacking play and lead to higher scoring.

The changes include:

  • AFL clubs will be restricted to 75 interchanges per match, as part of a series of rule changes.
  • The location of the mark at kick-ins will be set at 15 metres from the centre of the kick-off line.
  • Players standing on the mark will only be allowed ‘minimal’ lateral movement.

On Friday, Seven sports journo Ryan Daniels broke it down for The Bunch, beginning with the man-on-the-mark rule.

“I turned up to work yesterday and my producer said, ‘so, hold on, you have to stand like a statue?’,” he said.

“Like netball?” Lisa queried.
