It feels like yesterday’s win was a historic one for Freo.
You could argue that any Derby win is historic for Fremantle, but snapping a six-year losing streak is surely enough cause to celebrate a win as “historic”, no?
The Dockers flew out of the gates to a five-goal lead at quarter time, a lead which ultimately proved too great for the Eagles to claw back.
But despite the celebrations, the Dockers might have done every West Aussie footy fan dirty by beating their cross-town rivals.
Footy journo Ryan Daniels told The Bunch this morning that “Fremantle have basically killed off any chance of a WA team making the finals.”
Did you read that? Basically!
That’s enough for us to start booking our flights to the Grand Final in…well, wherever the Grand Final is going to be played this year.
Are there flights direct to Optus Stadium? Because, we’re counting on that mathematic possibility for a Freo vs West Coast grand final at Optus. You heard it here first!
But there are a few cards that need to fall into place before this (admittedly slim) mathematic possibility plays out in real life. Because, according to Ryan at least, “it’s still wide open”, it’s just that it’s almost entirely out of both clubs’ hands now.
Take a listen to Ryan outline what needs to happen next weekend here:
