The 2023 Oscar nominations have rolled out and some of the biggest films of the year will be celebrated.
Top Gun: Maverick and Elvis, two of the northern hemisphere summer’s biggest blockbusters, also made the cut alongside Steven Spielberg’s coming-of-age film The Fabelmans, The Bansehees of Inisherin, Tar, Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking and All Quiet on the Western Front.
Another vying for Best Picture includes Avatar: The Way of Water, currently ranking as the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time.
Aussie Cate Blanchett was nominated for best actress for her portrayal of a manipulative orchestra conductor in Tár.

Jamie Lee Curtis has (finally) been given an Oscars nod for her supporting role in Everything Everywhere – recognition that actress Christina Applegate described as ‘overdue’.
To Jamie Lee Curtis.I say this, not just well deserved but over due. You are a master at this thing Decades of consistency and power and talent. And not to mention, a badass human with a heart that warms us all. We need more of you in this world.#OscarNominations2023

Nominees also included Austin Butler for his portrayal of rock legend Elvis Presley, and Colin Farrell, who starred as a farmer obsessed with restoring a friendship in Banshees.
Some of the biggest pop stars are also being recognised this year including Rihanna and Lady Gaga who are both up for Best Original Song for their contributions to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Top Gun: Maverick scores respectively.
This year’s awards show will take place on Sunday, March 12, and hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel. Last year’s show, when Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock before winning best actor, drew about 15.4 million TV viewers, the second-smallest audience ever.
Winners will be voted on by the roughly 10,000 actors, producers, directors and film craftspeople who make up the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
