Next Sunday, Stan will premiere Revealed: Death Cap Murders, a three-part documentary delving into the shocking 2023 case in which Erin Patterson served a mushroom-laced Beef Wellington that killed three people, including her parents-in-law and sister-in-law.

Patterson was sentenced to life in prison, with a non-parole period of 33 years.

Part 1 traces the story from the initial emergence of the case to Patterson’s formal charging by Victoria Police. Told through interviews with locals, former colleagues, journalists, and fungi experts, the doco centres on young Age crime reporter Marta Pascual Juanola, who covered the case from the start, alongside seasoned crime reporter John Silvester.

Patterson’s past, including her career as an air traffic controller and her relationships, is explored to provide context to the tragedy.

The documentary also breaks down the science behind Death Cap mushrooms, with one expert offering a chilling warning: ‘All mushrooms are edible, but some are only edible once.’

While Part 1 may not reveal previously unknown details, it lays a clear, methodical timeline of events and sets the stage for the next two episodes, offering a measured yet gripping account of a case that captured global attention.
