Double-pluggers, thongs, flip flops, jandals… whatever you call them, they’re an Aussie essential. Now, in an unexpected twist, IKEA has given them its signature flat-pack makeover. That’s right: flat-packed thongs are officially a thing.
To mark 50 years since opening its first Australian store, the Swedish furniture giant has launched the world’s first flat-packed flip flops.
True to form, they come disassembled and ready for you to piece together, just like a Billy bookcase. It’s a tongue-in-cheek nod to Aussie culture and the brand’s long-standing relationship with local customers, 87% of whom have stepped foot in an IKEA store at some point (and 33% of us who have pocketed one of their little pencils).
If you’re near an IKEA, birthday celebrations are happening nationwide from Saturday 31 May to Sunday 1 June 2025. Expect offers like 50% off the POÄNG armchair series, 50-cent hot dogs, and of course, a chance to grab your very own DIY thongs.
