Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs were founded in 1977 but really burst forward from the British post-punk scene in the early ‘80s.

One of their early singles Pretty In Pink served as inspiration for the 1986 John Hughes film of the same name and was re-recorded for the platinum-selling soundtrack.

Plenty have been influenced by The Psychedelic Furs, including The Cure’s Robert Smith, The Killers and Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl but there was one band that Tim Butler told Clairsy & Lisa he was completely shocked to learn they covered their 1982 otherwordly anthem, Love My Way.

Butler was also reminded of “one drunken night” when he told David Bowie he couldn’t act.

“He had the best comeback,” Butler said of Bowie.
