For 132 years, the New York Yacht Club had retained the America’s Cup in the longest winning streak in sporting history in the oldest international sporting competition in the world.

Until 1983.

The combination of Alan Bond, Ben Lexen, Warren Jones, and the hard yakka of Australia II’s crew under the brilliant skipper John Bertrand, led to one of the biggest sporting comebacks in sporting history – and put Fremantle on the map, literally overnight.

Taking Liberty by Ingle Knight brings the story to the stage as part of the ‘Australia II: 40 Years On’ celebrations being held at the WA Maritime Museum next weekend.
