Daddy Cool’s Ross Wilson has confirmed that Elton John’s Crocodile Rock was directly influenced by Eagle Rock.

“It was!” he remarked during a chat with Clairsy & Lisa on Wednesday before relaying how it came about.

“He came out here [on his 1972 Australian tour] and it was the very first time he toured Australia and he heard Daddy Cool on the radio and went nuts,” Wilson recalled.

“He went and bought copies of Come Back Again and Eagle Rock and he and Bernie Taupin were inspired, ‘Oh, let’s write a song about an animal dance,’ but of course, it’s a completely different song.” (and people don’t dack themselves on the dancefloor when it comes on).

Another massive band that was directly influenced by Daddy Cool was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – a fact that Wilson only discovered about five years ago.
