It’s a movie that has been widely bashed by critics, but is turning out to be smash hit with audiences around the world.

The Super Mario Bros Movie has had a mammoth opening at the box office, having the biggest worldwide debut of the year and earning $567 million in worldwide ticket sales.

The iconic and nostalgic movie opened domestically last week and hauled in $12.5 million across its opening weekend. The huge figures have seen the movie strip Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania of ‘best international debut of the year’ after it earnt a cool $343 million in its opening week.

The Super Mario Bros Movie has also been the second biggest animated debut of all time, losing out only to Frozen 2.

Even though it may be a huge box office hit, critics aren’t exactly telling people to rush out and see the movie, rating it at a lowly 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the whopping 96% audience score.
