Imagine doing roadworks in 40C weather like we’re having this week!

That’s exactly what Clairsy thought when he came across some roadworks happening around Jersey Street in Wembley on Tuesday.

Here’s what he said about it:

The City of Cambridge says that the tramline was installed along Cambridge Street, between McCourt Street and Alexander Street, during the early 1900s.

The steel rails were removed during the 1950s but the ballast and jarrah sleepers were left in place.

The City says these sleepers are now becoming unstable and the asphalt road surface over the sleepers is cracking and breaking up.

It’s understood that simply resurfacing the areas lasts less than ten years, so they’re being removed.
