Less than 100 days ago, St Kilda put out a press release headlined: ‘He’s Our Man’ to lead the team in 2023 and 2024.

Turns out Brett Ratten was not, in fact, their man.

“They sacked him overnight,” Ryan Daniels told Clairsy & Lisa.

“Brett Ratten is one of the better people in footy, anyone you talk to loves him – that doesn’t mean he’s a great coach, I get that, sometimes you have to move the coach on, but you don’t do it after you’ve just signed them.”

But here’s the kicker: they still have to pay him.

Ryan estimates that, based on other coaches’ salaries, it would’ve been least $600K a year, probably closer to $700K.

“He’s gonna be doing not a lot of work for a lot of money for the next two years,” he said.

This also presents a new problem for the Saints.

North Melbourne, Essendon, GWS have all have newly-minted coaches… who’s even left?
