It was a devastating one-point loss for the Western Force at HBF Park against the Melbourne Rebels on Friday night.

The visitors posted a 22-21 win, despite Rebels’ Ray Nu’u being given his marching orders in the 52nd minute for a high tackle.

The Rebels led 16-5 at halftime of Friday night’s match, but the margin had been cut back to one point by the time Nu’u was red carded.

The Force took the lead during the early stages of the 20-minute red card period and appeared destined for victory, but clutch penalties to Matt To’omua and Reece Hodge while the Rebels were down a man were enough to lift the visitors to their second win in a row.

“Absolutely devastated with that one,” stand-in Force skipper Kyle Godwin said at the time.

“That one really cut us deep. It’s a bitter pill to swallow.”

On Tuesday during a chat with Clairsy & Lisa, Godwin went further, taking full responsibility for the team taking a late penalty goal which ended up being pretty costly.

“I’ve gotta put my hand up and wear that one,” Godwin admitted. “At the time I thought it was the right decision but yeah, obviously hindsight is beautiful.”

Looking forward to this weekend, not only is Godwin keen to take the Waratahs to task… but also a few hot cross buns.

And he has a very specific way he likes to eat them…
